Stepping Stones - Youth Work for everyone - 3rd March 2018, St Mary's Church Bideford

Paul Reisbach (Exeter Diocese Youth Worker) says

Over the last few years, I have come to realise that there are a lot of churches in Devon that feel like “youth work” is just beyond them; that it’s too much.

I am hoping to use this day conference “Stepping Stones” (see programme attached) to help people realise that youth ministry doesn’t have to be all singing, all dancing but there are many ways that they can make small steps (hence stepping stones) toward working effectively with young people in their area.

For some this might mean starting some sort of youth club – but for others it may be as simple as committing to pray with (some sort of focus or structure) for the young people in their area/ local school on a regular basis.

As a part of this day I am hoping to be able to deliver a number of short / punchy talks around youth work.  These talks break down in to two streams: 1) three talks on peoples personal journey’s (as volunteers; I don’t want to perpetuate the thinking that you need a qualified and full time youth worker to do youth work) on growing their church’s connection with young people from 0-5, 5-10, and 10-15 respectively) and 2) Some slightly longer talks around some topics that have been requested.  I’ve attached the programme so you can get a better idea about what it is that I am talking about.

All of the talks are surrounded by discussion and feedback times and the whole trajectory of the day is such that people should leave feeling encouraged with some clear practical ideas about what to do next. I should say – lunch is included!
